USDA made its first fluid milk donation this week as part of a $50 million purchase plan.
Bruce Summers with USDA’s Marketing Service says 12 to 15 million gallons of milk will delivered to food banks over the next year. “We know we have a lot of milk out in the country side, more than we’re able to sell right now and so this is an opportunity to match up demand with supply and do it in a really efficient way.”
This is the first time USDA had made a purchase of fluid milk for food assistance.
